Two-way radio across Devon and Cornwall

Rental price from £6 per week

Instant contact across a farm, where the mobile signal often is not there at all.

Two-way radios are used across UK agriculture because a tractor, a parlour and a yard at the far end of the holding still need to talk. Gould Electronics supplies and fits radios for major farms across the South West, and for holdings elsewhere in the UK.

Machinery

Tractor drivers, combine operators and grain-cart drivers stay in line during planting, spraying and harvest, and keep the traffic on the headland moving.

Sheep in a barn
Livestock

Teams moving cattle, sheep or pigs between grazing, housing and the milking parlour can call the next gate without leaving the animals.

The wider holding

A yard, a reservoir or a field over the hill is still on the same channel. Data-capable radios can also carry simple telemetry from distant kit.

Winter work

Short days, mud and a change in the weather. The same radios cover feeding, checks and an emergency call if a machine or a person is in trouble.

Where farm radios are used
In the field
  • Lining up passes and managing traffic between tractors, combines and grain carts
  • Moving cattle, sheep or pigs between grazing, housing and the parlour
  • Checking water in a distant reservoir, or a slow data link back from field equipment
In the yard and on the estate
  • Guiding lorries with red diesel, feed or fertiliser into a large yard
  • Reporting suspicious activity, rustling or someone on the ground who should not be there
  • Running beaters, guns and safety on a shoot or another countryside event
  • Calling everyone at once for an accident, a fire, a trapped machine or a sudden change in the weather
Why a radio, rather than a phone
No mobile signal needed

The sets talk to each other. A dead spot in the valley does not take the whole team off the air.

One press, the whole team

A manager can speak to everyone, or to one channel, without ringing round cab by cab.

Built for the job

Handsets and vehicle sets are made for mud, dust, heavy rain and a shift of more than 10 hours.

Licensed, or licence-free

Most farms use an Ofcom licence on VHF or UHF, for a stronger signal and less interference. A small holding can use licence-free PMR446.

Farms across the South West

Gould supplies major farms across the South West. Because so many of them are already on our radios, we can often match frequencies between neighbouring businesses, so a tractor, a haulier or a contractor can work on the same call when the job needs it.

On Exmoor, a Gould system covers a working farm and the neighbouring ground from two aerial sites linked together. The same approach is used where one farm, or a group of them, is too spread out for a single aerial.

Winter 2026

Winter starter package

Three professional Motorola digital DM1400 radios, each with a Truspring antenna.

Motorola MOTOTRBO is the digital radio we fit when the set has to earn its place on a working farm. The audio stays clear in a noisy cab, a driver can use it without a lesson, and the build stands up to mud, dust and a long day.
